How to study with Ladder Chinese
If you have bought the course, please click "Study Now" on the homepage, you can also login your person homepage to select the course which you want to take.
The system will record your study progress and mark your study progress in default status.
The blue means basic learning, the orange listening, and the pink speaking. You can click any one of to continue your study.

You can also click the label on the colored ribbons to continue to learn from the last.
You need to complete the previous lesson's basic learning in order to start the next lesson.

Listening —— Click the picture or any card of a character to listen to the narrator reading
Reading —— Click the mic to read
Click the mic and wait for a tone, ding. Read the content you choose. Click the mic again to stop it if you read fast, or just wait a few seconds and it will stop automatically.
Feedback —— Your pronouncition scores
You'll see your scores as icons of weather. If you see a sunny icon , you are perfect. Overcast acceptable. Rainy need more practice. Snowy, this is a bit hard for you. Don't give up. Rainy and snowy are highlighted and clickable.
Instruction —— Your pronouncition difficulties
You can find why it's raining or snowy by clicking a highlighted character.

Difficult Character —— A dialog box will popup to tell you how to pronounce and allows you to practice a single character again and again. Each time, you'll get feedback as different weather to see if you've improved. You can find more about the dialog box at Difficult Character.
Pronunciation guide —— you can see the character with its pinyin, and the initial and final. Please click on the card and listen to pronunciation of the character.

Tone guide —— you can see the character with its pinyin and a drawing of the tone curve. When you practice reading the character, the curve representing your tone will appear along with that of the narrator's.

Yourself pronunciation —— you can listen to a recording of your own voice by clicking the speaker icon to the right of the microphone. You can compare your own with the narrator's.
There are four types of listening exercise which helps to perfect your listening skills

Listen to the word or sentence
1. When you hear the word or sentence, you need to pick out a card with either a picture showing something the word is about, or the Chinese word itself, or something others.
2. If you click the right selection, you'll see a tick. Otherwise you'll see a cross.
Tips
1. Click to listen to the standard pronunciation.
2. You can click on the card when you are doing multiple choice test.
3. If you find it too hard, you can click the spy glass at the lower left corner. It reveals the answer.
4. When you finish one word, you'll hear another. You can find your score at the lower right corner.
5. After the last word, you'll see a summary page, where you can:
• start the exercise over again by clicking Try again button, or
• go to next exercise by clicking Next activity button.

6. you can get back and listen to a word again by click one of the squares aligned at the very bottom of the page. Blue squares represent words you have listened. Gray squares that you have not.
Feedback
1. Shortly after your voice is recorded, you'll see the Chinese characters displayed. Similar to word study page, there are weather icons showing your pronunciation scores. Additionally, there are drawings showing the tones you've made.
2. You also can click the difficult characters marked by the color yellow to enter the specialized exercise section as instructed in Basic learning.

Tips
1. You can click the grey card to listen to the standard pronunciation, you can also click the loudspeaker icon in feedback section to hear your own pronunciation.
2. You can repeat the exercise by clicking microphone icon again and again,until you are satisfied with your pronunciation credits.

You need to finish the study of at least one lesson before you can start a unit test.
Listening Tests
1. You'll hear a word read by a narrator at the start. Listen carefully and choose from three pictures the one that the word refers to. Click to select a picture.
2. You can only choose once. If you need to listen again, you can click the speaker button at the top. However, you also need to keep an eye on the time progress bar at the bottom. There is a time limit for you to finish a test.
3. If you find a word too difficult, you can skip a word by clicking Next button,The questions left unanswered will be counted as incorrect.
4. When finished a word either by making a choice or skipping, you proceed to next word automatically. When you have finished all word, a summary page shows up telling you the correctness of test.
Speaking Tests

1. You need to think of a Chinese word learned in the unit by the clue of a picture and a short description. You have three chances to make a guess, click the microphone button, and speaking out the Chinese word.
2. You'll not be told if it's correct right now. If you feel that you haven't pronounce well, you can click the microphone button before it goes to next word. If it is too difficult, you can skip by clicking next button.
3. When you've got no chance or time left for a word, you'll continue to next word.
4. When you've finished all words, you'll see a summary page displaying the correctness of your pronunciation.

2. There's chart showing both your listening and speaking test results for each unit in a book.
